Ask the Monk is one of the features of this blog. I sub-title it ‘Christian answers to Atheist questions’. If you’re curious about some aspect of Christianity, have a major bone to pick, or want clarification on some point of contention, Ask the Monk is for just that. Now, you don’t have to be an atheist to send me a question. Agnostics and devotees of other faiths are also welcome. If you’re a Christian and want some answers, I’ll take the questions, but the answer will probably show up in a Meditation. I’ll let you know which one, though.Send your questions to askthemonkquestions @ gmail.com

I consider myself a loving person, with concern for everyone’s welfare. I feel i have come further than many my age (22) in the ways of love, truth, and the pursuit of peace. However, in the past few days i have felt such a torment within me, and i would like to know how to make peace within myself.
My lover of the past three years has left to become a soldier in the U.S. army national guard and i won’t see him for a half a year. how do i cope with being alone after so long of being with someone every day? What is the best way to accept the natural process of grief after a loss?
the other part of my torment begins as today i came across new photos of the Abu Ghraib prison. This makes my heart split in two. How can a human being do such things to another human being? Why must we conquer each other, or treat another humans/animals so horribly? I feel so helpless and sad.
Any wisdom you can impart upon me would be much appreciated. Please let me know if i can trade equally with you, i can send you a painting for your words.
Thank you very much for your time.
